12.23.95 | "JEERS TO COMEDY CENTRAL!" says TV Guide

The December 23rd issue of TV Guide sums up the almost certain, but yet to be actually confirmed, cancellation of MST3K as follows:

"Jeers to Comedy Central for canceling Mystery Science Theater 3000. Say it ain't so: No more Mike and Joel? No more Tom Servo and Crow? No more Torgo?! No says Comedy Central spokesman Tony Fox, who admits, "It's a sad day when we've got to let such a signature show discontinue production" due to low ratings.

A sad day, indeed. Mystie-eyed fans can console themselves with an upcoming MST3K CD-ROM, "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie," The Amazing Colossal Episode Guide, and the 2nd "Conventio-Con Expo-fest-a-rama," to be held in Minneapolis on Labor Day. Last 'bot not least, there's always the chance that another network will want new episodes of the show when Best Brains (the outfit that produces MST3K) is free to negotiate with another network in January 1997. Sounds like a no-brainer to us."

12.10.95 | MST3K: THE END (?) - Part 3

Contrary to the mass speculation on Bboards, Jim Mallon (President and Founder of Best Brains Inc.) has confirmed that Best Brains Inc. does indeed want to continue making MST3K and further, Jim Mallon has given his consent and enthusiasm to grass roots campaigns to either convince Comedy Central to purchase more episodes of MST3K or to release Best Brains Inc. from their contract with Comedy Central.

12.07.95 | MST3K: THE END (?) - Part 2

Loyal fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 have and continue to besiege Comedy Central with complaints about the recent announcement by Best Brains Inc. that Comedy Central had canceled the series. Comedy Central's president himself, Doug Herzog, has stated that Mystery Science Theater 3000's track record is one of declining ratings and that he wants the station to keep evolving with newer and hipper shows.

Best Brains Inc. has responded in kind and has stated that "ratings" had never been an issue with regard to the economical viability of the show and that they were surprised that Doug Herzog was suggesting this was the reason for the decision to cancel the highly successful series.

Comedy Central then announced that they were surprised Best Brains Inc. had released the pre-emptive announcement about the cancellation of MST3K, since representatives from both sides were still negotiating the future of the series.

12.05.95 | MST3K: THE END (?) *************BEST BRAINS INC. ANNOUNCEMENT*************

Best Brains Inc. has announced that not only has Comedy Central declined to exercise their contractual option with Best Brains Inc. for an additional three more episodes for Season 7, but that Comedy Central has canceled MST3K as they have decided not to renew Mystery Science Theater 3000 for an eighth season. Worst yet, Best Brains Inc. has also announced that an exclusionary clause in their contract prohibits MST3K moving to another network until 1997.

For their part, a Comedy Central spokesperson called the Best Brains Inc. announcement "premature," and quickly added that the series had obviously not been cancelled since reruns were still airing. In what could prove to be a grim foreshadowing statement, the Comedy Central spokesperson reluctantly admitted that, "yes, they had not ordered any new episodes beyond the six scheduled for season seven."

Fear not though fellow MiSTies for Best Brains Inc. has promised "...to reappear in some form even if it is direct-to-video."

11.01.95 | Frank Conniff departs and Mary Jo Pehl arrives

Mystery Science Theater 3000 lost one of its most endearing characters when Frank Conniff (TV's Frank) decided to leave the show to pursue another project (a 'career') in Los Angeles. After great thought and consideration, the MST3K cast has decided that Mary Jo Pehl is the only logical replacement ...(that they can afford). Mary Jo Pehl will continue to play the character of Mrs. Forrester (Clayton Forrester's Mother). Long live the Forrester's and MST3K!

09.02.95 | Frank Conniff writes Attack Of The Killer B Movies

NBC will air a 2-hour special titled "Attack Of The Killer B Movies" tonight at 8:00 PM EST. This television special stars none other than everyone's favorite Mistress of the Dark, Elvira. "Attack Of The Killer B Movies" will also feature five star cameo appearances from NBC's Saturday morning teen shows ("Saved By the Bell," "California Dreams," and "Hang Time").

The premise will be very familiar to MiSTies: Elvira kidnaps the hapless teens and forces them into her parlor to watch "The Wasp Woman," "Killers From Space," "Monster From Green Hell" and "The Navy Vs. The Night Monsters." (In order to fit the four movies into the two-hour format, the movies are said to have been heavily edited.)

MiSTies may be interested in tuning in for more than just another healthy heaping of bad B-movies..."Attack Of The Killer B Movies" was also written by Frank Conniff. You see, he really is TV's Frank!

05.21.95 | MST3K Easter egg in The Simpsons

For those TV viewers with an acute eye, a MST3K Easter Egg was seen in the latest episode 625 - "Who Shot Mr. Burns" of The Simpsons. For viewers who missed it, look at the TV screen in Moe's Tavern below (see screenshot image below). At the bottom of the television broadcast is the unmistakable MST shadowrama.
