Movie Summary

 Movie: The Last Chase:

This is an 80's movie that is set in the future. Evil environmental fascists have forced everyone to recycle and oil consuming cars are outlawed. The future, it seems, is incredibly unkind to all those people who want to drive Porsches and smoke cigarettes. Our oppressed hero, Lee Majors (The 6 Million Dollar Man), is Franklin Hart, an ex-race car driver who lives in futuristic Boston and after seeing an illegal television broadcast from California (A Free State), decides to make a statement by pulling out his old Porsche racecar and driving cross-country at 150 miles per hour. A brainy student named Ring tags along and gives Lee someone to talk to while he siphons gas from old gas station pumps. Their destination is the Holy Land, the Free State of California!

Of course, the Powers That Be try to eliminate him by hiring Capt. J.G. Williams, Burgess Meredith, to shoot him down with a fighter jet, which, too, are virtually extinct. This futuristic chase of life and death fails miserably because Burgess Meredith would rather talk to his kite, and decides to just pretend to pursue Hart and the kid. Meanwhile, Ring makes a statue pay dearly by shooting its head off real good. Twice as weird as it sounds as three times as unbelievable!

Last Words of the film: "This could set us back to the 1980's." This movie is set in the United States but was actually filmed in Canada.

Last words from Joel and the 'Bots about the film: "Aw, no wonder it sucks, it's Canadian!"

Host Segments

 Invention:

Dr. Forrester pours heavy water and a "secret ingredient" into Dr. Erhardt's mouth in a futile attempt to perfect cold fusion, but only ends up with the dry heaves.

 Segment 2:

Joel gives Tom and Crow a humanity lesson to help them develop a conscious: 1. Always say "please" and "thank you," even if you don't mean it. 2. Always remember to call your Mom (or in the case of the 'Bots, call Joel). 3. Never let them see you sweat.

 Segment 3:

Joel reads the 1000th fan club letter! The prize for the writer is a demon dog.

 Segment 4:

Joel, Crow, and Tom read another fan club letter from a fan who explains that he likes it when Tom Servo says, "CITY ON FIRE!!" The writer also admits that he likes it when Joel hits Tom's head, so Joel obliges and rattles Tom's head a bit.

 Segment 5:

Joel reads yet another fan club letter. The writer tells Joel and the 'Bots about "Commander Paul" who had a kid's show on Saturday morning in his hometown, but it was really bland. Commander Paul would show cartoons and tell viewers the temperature outside with an occasional visit by a lady from the zoo who would talk about snakes or a library person who would talk about books. Commander Paul was eventually replaced by a "Commander Dave" and then later a "Commander Tom." But none of them really put any of their own personality into the show like Joel. Thank you. The writer finishes with: "Here's to more Japanese brain-eating women with Georgia accents!"

 Stinger:

Reflections

This was a staple of 1980's Canadian television, not because it's particularly good, but because it was made with Canadian dollars—thus allowing it to fit in with the country's strange Canadian Content broadcast regulations. Lee Majors takes time out in-between his Six Million Dollar Man / Fall Guy gigs and races around the countryside, while Chris Makepeace blows the head off a statue real good, and Burgess Meredith talks to his kite. All this, plus a supporting role from Harvey Atkin as the orgy-frequenting conformist co-worker who frowns upon Lee's free-thinking spirit.
